Birdwatching
River, channels, marshes and a flooded forest make Kerkini one of Greece's most popular birdwatching destinations.

Lake Kerkini · Northern Greece
Experience the beauty of nature through boat trips and outdoor activities that bring you closer to the landscapes and wildlife of Lake Kerkini.
The lake experience
Lake Kerkini lies at the foot of Mount Beles and the Krousia hills in north‑west Serres, where the Strymonas river meets the lake and forms a remarkable flooded forest.
River, channels, marshes, flooded meadows and mountain habitats support rich birdlife all year — from pelicans and cormorants to flamingos and herons. The best way to experience it is from the water, quietly, aboard a traditional boat.

Signature experience
Trips run aboard Kerkini's traditional plava boats — 18‑seat wooden boats built using the techniques of past generations, with a canopy and a low‑noise outboard engine. They are steered by experienced boatmen who know the lake's flora and fauna well.
